Best For

Bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, home offices, pantries, and standard interior openings

Wide openings, large closets, pantries, entryways, and spaces where two matching door panels create a balanced appearance.

Closets, compact spaces, wide openings, and rooms with limited wall clearance beside the doorway

Features

Uses one door panel and one standard hardware kit. A practical, space-saving option for everyday interior openings.

Uses two matching barn door panels. Depending on the selected hardware, the doors can meet in the center, slide past one another, or hang from a ceiling-mounted track.

Uses two or more door panels that slide past one another, reducing the amount of clear wall space required beside the opening.

Barn Door Buying Guide

How to Choose the Right Barn Door for Your Space

Choosing the right barn door is about more than just appearance. The best option depends on your room layout, available wall space, preferred design style, and how you plan to use the door every day. This guide will help you narrow down the right fit for closets, bathrooms, bedrooms, home offices, pantries, and other interior spaces.

How to Measure for a Barn Door

Before choosing a barn door, make sure you measure your opening carefully so the door fits properly and slides smoothly.

Not sure what size you need?

Measure your finished opening, then use Homacer Barn Door Size Calculator to estimate the right barn door size for your space.

Width

Measure the width of the opening and allow extra coverage on both sides so the door can fully overlap the doorway when closed. In most cases, adding a little additional width helps create better privacy, a cleaner finished look, and smoother day-to-day use.

Height

Measure from the floor to the top of the opening, then leave enough room above for the track and hardware. A proper height measurement helps the door hang correctly, clear the floor as needed, and slide more smoothly over time.

Wall Clearance

Make sure you have enough wall space beside the opening for the door to slide fully open. This is especially important for double barn doors, bypass barn doors, and closet applications where the surrounding wall area may be more limited.
