Choosing a Double Track Bypass Kit
Plan How the Doors Will Open
A double track bypass system places the doors on two parallel rails. Panels on different rails can slide past one another, allowing access to different parts of the opening.
For a two-door closet or pantry, decide which side you need to access and where the doors should sit when open. Overlapping the panels does not necessarily clear the entire opening. The accessible width depends on the door widths, track length, and available space beside the opening.
Selected kits offer three- and four-door configurations. Check the intended panel arrangement before ordering. Doors sharing the same rail cannot slide past each other.
Select the Track Length
Measure the finished opening, the width of each door, and the available space beside the opening. Allow enough overlap for the doors to cover the opening when closed.
Use the Barn Door Track Size Calculator to estimate the required track length. Choose Double Track Bypass and the applicable door configuration, then enter your measurements.
Track options in this collection range from 4 to 20 ft, with availability varying by kit. For a four-door layout or an arrangement the calculator does not cover, contact us before ordering.
Compare Finishes and Roller Styles
Black Rustic and Brushed Nickel finishes are available in this collection. Choose a finish that coordinates with your door handles and other visible hardware.
Roller options include Classic, Straight, T-Shape, Spoke Wheel, and decorative designs. Use the Roller Style filter to compare the available options. Finish availability varies by design.
Check the roller dimensions as well as its appearance. Larger wheels and different hanger shapes can change the clearance needed above the door.
Check the Mounting Space and Door Compatibility
This collection includes U-Shape and Z-Shape bracket designs, along with ceiling-mounted options. Compare the installation drawings for the selected kit before choosing a mounting style.
Check the required clearance above the door, the distance between the two door panels, and the space needed for handles and trim. The panels and handles must clear each other throughout their travel.
Compare your door thickness and combined door weight with the selected system’s specifications. Follow its installation manual for mounting-hole positions, structural support, and fasteners. Where a header board is required, secure it to suitable structural framing.

How Double Track Bypass Doors Open
Closed Position
The panels cover the opening, with an overlap where they meet. Each door runs on its assigned track.
Overlapping Position
A door on the front track can slide past a door on the rear track. The panels overlap to provide access to part of the opening.
Double Track Bypass Hardware FAQs
How does double track bypass hardware differ from non-bypass hardware?
A double track bypass system uses two parallel rails, allowing a door on one rail to slide past a door on the other. Non-bypass hardware keeps the doors on the same track plane, so they cannot pass each other.
Can the doors slide completely clear of the opening?
Yes, if the track extends far enough beside the opening to accommodate the doors. When the panels overlap within the opening, they still cover part of it. The clear opening width depends on your door sizes, track length, and available wall space.
Can I install three or four doors on a double track system?
Selected kits are available in three- and four-door configurations. Both configurations use two rails. Doors on different rails can pass each other; doors sharing a rail cannot. Choose the door-count option that matches your planned layout.
Are door panels included?
No. These are hardware kits; door panels are sold separately. The product’s Parts Included tracks, rollers, brackets, stops, guides, and mounting components. Quantities vary by track length and door configuration.
How much space is needed above the doors?
The required clearance varies by bracket design, roller style, and mounting method. Measure from the top of the door panel to the ceiling and compare that measurement with the kit’s installation drawing. Larger wheel designs may require additional clearance.
Does the track come in one piece?
Some lengths use a single-piece rail, while longer options use connected sections. The product’s track diagram shows the supplied sections, junction plates, and mounting-hole positions for each length.
Is soft-close hardware included?
Soft-close attachments are sold separately. Compatibility depends on the hardware model, door weight, and available track space. Contact us with your kit details if you need help selecting an attachment.
Do I need a header board?
A header board may be needed when the track’s mounting holes do not align with the wall framing or when additional trim clearance is required. Secure the board to structural framing and follow the kit’s mounting instructions. Drywall alone cannot support the system.
Compare Other Bypass Systems
Single Track Bypass
One shared rail with offset hangers creates an overlapping door arrangement. Compare its clearance requirements and panel movement with a double track system.
Triple Track Bypass
Three parallel rails allow three door panels to run on separate tracks. Compare this option if your layout requires each panel to pass the others.
