Can the hardware be used in an outdoor setting?
While the hardware can be used outside, the bolts that come with the kit are not exterior grade. If you are using the kit outdoors, please change out all the bolts for exterior grade bolts. If the doors you are using are very heavy, also think about swapping the provided bolts for Grade 8 bolts instead. And to be on the safe side, please also coat the hardware in an anti-rust sealant.
Do I need a header board if I have trims or uneven walls?
Yes. A header board is strongly recommended if studs are not aligned with the installation area, or if decorative trims interfere with mounting. It ensures structural integrity and long-term stability.
How much clearance above the door do I need?
A minimum of 6–8 inches of clearance is required above the opening to accommodate the track and rollers. This is consistent with most sliding barn door hardware specifications.
If the track is too long, can I cut it down?
Yes. Tracks are made of steel or aluminum and may be cut with proper metal-cutting tools.
Please note: once modified, the track is non-returnable.
My studs do not line up or I do not have studs. Can I mount the hardware into dry wall?
Please do not mount directly into the dry wall. Our hardware is made of steel so it can get quite heavy depending on the length. With doors on the track, the weight can be an issue for your wall without proper support. If the studs do not line up, mount a header board. If you do not have studs, we would not recommend using the hardware. The worse case scenario would be the track and door pulling down your wall.
What type of floor guide should I use for my barn door?
Floor guides prevent lateral door movement. For concrete or tiled floors, a wall-mounted guide is recommended. For wood subfloors, standard floor-mounted guides can be used.
My track is too short. What do I do?
Extension tracks or longer replacement tracks are available. When joining track sections, ensure proper alignment and use a header board to distribute weight evenly.
What size barn door do I need for my opening?
Industry standards recommend selecting a barn door 2 inches wider and 1 inch taller than the finished opening to ensure full coverage and smooth operation.
What weight can the hardware support?
