Choosing Your Ceiling Mounted Barn Door Hardware
Start with how you want your barn doors to open, then check the mounting structure, track length, and door compatibility.
Choose Non-Bypass or Double-Track Bypass
A single-door non-bypass kit lets one barn door slide along one track. A double-door non-bypass kit supports two barn doors on the same track plane, often opening in opposite directions. These barn doors cannot slide past each other.
A ceiling mount double-track bypass kit uses two parallel tracks so the barn doors can overlap. This can help when there is limited space beside the opening, but the stacked barn doors may still cover part of the doorway.
Check the Overhead Mounting Structure
Ceiling mount barn door hardware needs a suitable load-bearing structure above the opening. Confirm the mounting locations and fastening requirements for your chosen kit before ordering. Drywall or suspended ceiling tiles alone cannot support the system.
Review our Barn Door Hardware Installation Guides and select the ceiling mount non-bypass or ceiling mount double-track bypass manual that matches your kit.
Measure the Opening and Sliding Space
Check each barn door's width, height, thickness, and weight against the selected hardware. Measure from the overhead mounting surface to the finished floor, allowing for the bracket and roller assembly, required floor clearance, and floor guide.
For bypass barn doors, also check the spacing between the doors and clearance for handles, trim, and nearby fixtures.
Select Your Finish
Choose Black Rustic for a dark hardware finish or Brushed Nickel for a lighter metallic finish. Check the selected product for available track lengths and the correct single-door or double-door configuration.
Ceiling Mount Sliding Barn Door Hardware FAQs
Can you hang a barn door from the ceiling?
Yes, with a ceiling mount hardware kit and a suitable overhead support structure. The mounting surface and fasteners must meet the requirements of the selected kit. Ceiling mount installation still requires enough space for the barn door to travel along the track.
What is the difference between ceiling mount and wall mount barn door hardware?
Ceiling mount hardware supports the track from above. Wall mount hardware attaches the track to a suitable wall structure beside or above the opening. Choose the mounting method that fits your structure and layout; a wall mount kit should not be assumed suitable for ceiling installation.
Can I use ceiling mount hardware for two barn doors?
Yes. This collection includes double-door non-bypass kits and double-track bypass kits. Choose non-bypass for barn doors that run on the same track plane, or double-track bypass when the barn doors need to slide past each other.
Will bypass barn doors leave the whole opening clear?
Not necessarily. If the barn doors overlap within the opening, part of the opening remains covered. The clear access depends on the door widths, track length, overlap, and available space beyond the opening.
How do I choose a ceiling mounted barn door track length?
Plan the closed and open positions of your barn doors first. The track must accommodate both the opening coverage and the required travel. Non-bypass and bypass layouts have different space requirements, so confirm the track length for your selected configuration before ordering.
How much weight can the hardware support?
Check the weight rating for your exact kit and confirm whether it applies to each barn door or the complete system. The overhead structure and fasteners must also be suitable for the installed load. Contact Homacer with the number and weight of your barn doors if you need help checking compatibility.
Do ceiling mount barn doors need a floor guide?
A floor guide helps keep a sliding barn door aligned as it moves. Follow your kit's instructions for the correct guide position and any door preparation. Ceiling mounting does not remove the need for the specified guide.
Are barn doors included with these hardware kits?
No. These listings are for hardware kits; barn doors are sold separately. Browse our Barn Doors and confirm the dimensions, thickness, and weight are compatible with your chosen ceiling mount kit.
Where can I find ceiling mount installation instructions?
Visit our Installation Instructions & Manuals. Separate manuals are listed for ceiling mount non-bypass single/double barn door hardware and ceiling mount double-track bypass hardware. Choose the manual that matches your kit and order batch.
